Depending on just what you need, one may chose a 1" diameter
bar for your home work out or a basic Olympic bar. The 1" bars vary in
length and depending on what you are intending to use the bar for, a specific
length may be required. The bars illustrated below are the two basic style
of workout bars available. The first one has an area at each end where weight
plates can be added. A welded inner collar is provided to hold the weight plate
in place and away from the knurled area where your hand will grasp the bar.
A second set of collars is required to secure the chosen weight plates from
falling off the bar's end.
The second are is call a "spindle collar bar". This bar
comes with a fixed inner collar plus a spin on collar. Rather than the
smooth chromed end seen on the first bar, the end of the "Spindle Collar" bar
consist of a large threaded surface. This allows for a threaded collar to
be turned on to the bar, once the desired plates are added. This collar
can be tightened up tight against the last plate and hold all in place safely.
The bars illustrated are available in a variety of lengths
from 5' to 7'.
This is a basic Olympic bar made in China. For home use,
this would be fine but only recommended for the beginner who is lifting light
weight and not doing any close grip heavy presses. This bar has a list
price in the order of $89 CDN
COMMERCIAL USE
There are a great number of higher quality Olympic bars
available. Like so many other products the variation in quality is not
always readily apparent. Once again our company has turned to York and Gympak to find the very best quality for our customers. Once a quality
product line is found it is also important to consider the application intended
for the product. As an example, York provided quality bars for the basic
home application, as well as, Olympic lifting competitions. A
quality bar for the home application is not the same product as one designed for
an Olympic power lifting competition. We can offer you a quality bar at a
reasonable price that will meet the needs of your intended application.
7' - 750 lb bar manufactured in Taiwan. This bar is the
lowest quality bar that we would recommend to a commercial application. It
has a list price of $119 CDN
7' - 1000 lb test bar: 2 tonne bar made in Taiwan. The is a
tempered bar with considerable strength. This bar has a list price in the
order of $130 CDN.
7' - 1500lb test bar: 2 tonne bar made in Taiwan. The
tempering of this bar is simply more than that found with the 1000 lb test bar
note above. This bar is fitted with bearing on the plate holder ends allowing
